After a lot of work during the last month here in oregon we needed a break. we were looking for a place to go to combine relaxing with adventure. friends told us of mago estate hotel, and first we thought caribbean - how boring. when we arrived at mago, we learned better. this place was not only wonderful, it was so special, we have never seen anything comparable before. it offers luxury in a wild atmosphere. its so great BECAUSE it is not that standard hilton comfort resort thing, it is totally different to that! just an example: sitting in the own private plunge pool in our eden suite but same time in the middle of the jungle listening to the rain forests birds and nipping on a mango juice - this was our favourite daily activity. the beaches nearby are wonderful, and the various activities that are offered around did never ever let us get bored. one of our favourites outside the estate was the so called 'drive-in volcano' with its hot sulphur springs. also the spa amenities of mago estate are great, actually the best we ever knew. the spa tour offered by mago is unique. the food in their jungle restaurant with the breathtaking views to st. lucias petit piton and to sufriere (especially at night) was so different to all we are used to here in oregon, but just as great!! we loved it. thanks to the cook, margarete you know ;-)!

after all we can say these were the best vacations of our lives, and i am sure we will come back...maybe for our honeymon ;-)

We got married in August and decided to spend our honeymoon at Mago Estate Hotel in Soufrière, St. Lucia. The Piton View World Heritage Site sounds impressive; it was impressive, a great pleasure, we have never seen a hotel like Mago. We stayed at Buddha, a large suite with air conditioning, big four poster bed, plunge pool surrounded by beautiful frescos hand-carved into a rock formation. The spacious walk in closet gives you a chance to have your bags nicely organized. The mangos and plums are falling on your terrace equipped with hammock, deckchairs and rattan furniture, really a place to relax. The breathtaking Piton view even from the beautiful bathroom.

Margaret, the full-figured cook spoilt us with marvellous creations from her kitchen. A lot of the ingredients are growing in the garden of the hotel. In the centre of the Mago Estate are two mango trees and a rock formation used as a barbecue grill. The tuna fish grilled on this barbecue was just delicious.

Don’t be afraid, the Mangos banging on the roof are making a big noise. We loved the jungle pool of Mago Estate so we did not pay too much attention to the beautiful beaches nearby. John Plaisir’s Spa is the best we have ever seen in the Caribbean. We enjoyed his Mago Trinity, a combination of a steam bath smelling of eucalyptus, heated by local coal pots, a herbal bath in a whirl pool and a spa massage including lymphatic drainage. Afterwards you think you can fly !

His tour through the spa highlights of the neighbourhood takes a couple of hours. It’s unforgettable. He showed us the jewels of the Soufrière rainforest on his mineral tour. We were bathing in the warm healing sulphur water and mud of the drive in volcano. Afterwards he showed us a fabulous trail through an impressive waterfall area. Here we enjoyed a natural body temperature freshwater pool. At the end we got a reflexology treatment in a warm open air mineral pool. The minerals have painted the walls in pastel colours deriving from sulphur, iron, zinc and magnesium.

Conclusion: Mago Estate is not the Hilton and not a Holiday Inn, but the perfect place to unwind. We had a perfect honeymoon and we look forward to coming back to Margret’s mango flambé with rum and raisin ice cream.

We stayed at the Mago Estates from September 21st-25th. It was an adventure staying at a "tree top" resort 1000ft up on a mountain overlooking Soufriere. Our 3-sided room was fantastic !!!!!!

Mago is a very special place and we highly recommend it. We read the reviews and booked a last minute trip. We really didn''t know what to expect, and we were ready to take an adventure. When we arrived the staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. They led us to our room that was breathtaking with one wall completely open to an amazing view of the Pitons. The hotel is built into the mountain and the rooms are surrounded by plants and trees. We didn't have any problem with mosquitoes but there were nets if we needed them. The rooms are not air conditioned, which was what we were looking for so we were able to hear the sounds of the night. The chef made us wonderful island food and our server, Venus, was great. They have a new pool deck that is about 6 weeks old and allows you to lounge by the pool while overlooking the town and the Pitons. They are adding more rooms and renovating their kitchen. We walked to the town a couple of times and found some nice places to visit. The beach is not that great and recommend taking a boat or taxi to one of the others, which is easy. Negotiate your price before or have the hotel help you. Mago is the perfect place. Enjoy, I know we did.

Mago means “magician” in Spanish. The perfect place for a magical, unique atmosphere! We had our honeymoon here and two thumps up for architectural design: each space is cozy, rustic and secluded.

The view is breathtaking too. In short if you are looking for a romantic place to stay this is definitely the place to go.

P.S. to the owner: I’m from Spain and really enjoyed the “Ibizan” taste in Mago. I’m sure your house Ibiza is as special as this one.

Thank you!!!

For us Mago Estate will forever remain a cherished and nostalgic place for this is where we got married. The hotel itself holds a raw beauty that compliments the surrounding area. Our suite (Kabir) was beautiful and private-perfect for that romantic getaway. But above all the thing that will most be remembered and appreciated is the kind and hard working staff here who did their utmost to accommodate and satisfy us.

Nigel was wonderful, Karan, so friendly, helpful and sincere. Special thanks to Kendal – a super P.R. person and Jemma who picked beautiful seashells from the beach we were married at, and Wendy for the gorgeous smile all day-everyday. Thank you all for making this stay truly special.

Sincerely,

Tom and Joanna Burke, New Mexico

undefined What a delightful experience.

Having recently stayed at the Mago Estate Hotel and having read the reviews on where2stay, I am surprised as to why the ratings are not higher than shown.

My stay was a delightful experience. The staff was genuinely friendly and helpful, the room was clean and beautifully decorated with local carvings and artifacts, the food was excellent with a variety of local products and fresh fish caught that morning.

Since my return to the UK, I have recommended this special place to many of my friends and collegues.

Mago Estate Hotel was excellent - the true St. Lucian experience!
A traveler from London
I have stayed at Mago Estate several times, and on each occasion have been impressed by the quality and standard of service in what is a wholly unusual and beautiful location.

It is true that the ‘open air’ design of the rooms is for people who are accustomed to nature and the customary sounds of the Caribbean (roosters, etc.). However, the setting gives a true feel of life in St. Lucia.

The food is of an excellent quality with a continually changing menu. The staff is helpful, yet unobtrusive and always keen to advise you regarding local sightseeing or trips farther away. Mago also makes a great change from the tourist ambiance of the northern part of St Lucia.

I highly recommend it.

An experience in unsophisticated luxury.
John Peters from United Kingdom
We truly enjoyed our stay at the Mago Hotel. Never have we stayed in such a unique atmosphere and delightful surroundings.

Only the well-experienced traveller will enjoy this unsophisticated luxury. Do not expect air conditioning and satelite television, but the more genuine sounds of tree frogs for a real tropical island feel.
